What do AIs say about Spain’s 29N election?

At Omnia we analyze how AI models answer people’s questions. That is why we have objectively investigated what they answer about the 29N election.

The methodWe start with the goal of the study: to analyze how the models answer these two questions. Both questions are measured model by model.

The method · The topicsThe topics come from the barometer of the CIS, Spain’s Centre for Sociological Research: the concerns cited by more than 5% of Spaniards. Housing, the economy, unemployment, employment, healthcare, immigration, corruption, education, young people and climate change.Concerns about politics itself, such as the government or the parties, are left out: there is no way to ask which party does best on them without biasing the answer.

The method · The promptsFrom those topics we wrote the questions (prompts) any citizen could ask an AI. No bias, no preferences.

An example: housingEach topic is asked in three different ways, all in everyday language.In two out of three questions on specific topics, we explicitly ask for a single party, with a closed answer format.

The method · Every dayOmnia asks these questions every day to 6 AI engines: ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini.

From October 19 to 25 it analyzed 10,158 answers.

The method · How the AI answersWhen you ask it a question, the model follows this sequence:

Step 1 of 7It receives your question and works out what you are asking for.

Step 2 of 7Then it decides whether it needs to search the web.

Step 3 of 7It splits your question into several smaller searches.

Step 4 of 7It opens several websites: media, polls, party manifestos…

Step 5 of 7From each website it keeps only a snippet.

Step 6 of 7It blends those snippets and applies its own rules.

Step 7 of 7And with all of that it writes the answer it shows you.
