What Is a Good AI Visibility Score? How to Read Your Report

TL;DR
Your founder asked ChatGPT for the best tools in your category, and your brand wasn't on the list. Now you have agency quotes on the table, and they run from a few hundred dollars to five figures a month.
Before you sign, it helps to know what you're buying. This guide covers what generative engine optimization services include, what providers charge based on their own published prices, and when software does the job for less.
Generative engine optimization services are agency or consultant services that get your brand named and cited in AI answers. They cover the questions people ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews about your category. Providers sell the same work under several names: GEO services, AEO (answer engine optimization) services, ChatGPT brand visibility services, AI search optimization services and LLM SEO services.
GEO and AEO describe the same discipline. At Omnia we call it AEO.
The work exists because AI engines don't rank pages the way Google does. They write a new answer each time, based on the sources they retrieve and what they already know about your brand. A GEO service tries to make your brand part of those sources and that knowledge.
These services usually combine six kinds of work:
The mix is what separates providers. Some sell monitoring with light advice. Others are mainly content production or digital PR with a dashboard attached. Ask every provider to list its monthly deliverables in writing, so you can compare quotes like for like.
Most engagements run in three phases. First Pier's 2026 guide describes a typical timeline from the agency side:
| Phase | Typical timing | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Audit and baseline | Weeks 1 to 4 | Your current AI visibility, the prompts that matter and the sources AI engines cite |
| Foundation and quick wins | Months 2 to 4 | Page rewrites, schema fixes and the first new content |
| Authority and citations | Month 5 onward | Digital PR, third-party mentions and ongoing content |
The first phase is the one to insist on. Without a baseline on fixed prompts, neither you nor the provider can show later what the work changed.
Generative engine optimization services cost between $390 and $10,000 a month in published retainers, based on five vendors' own pricing pages checked on 30 October 2026. One-off audits and fixed-scope projects started at $8,000 to $10,000. Many providers don't publish prices at all and quote after a call.
| Vendor | Service | Published price (as listed) | Model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Are You Visible | Monitoring, Growth, Partner tiers | $390, $890 or $1,690 a month | Monthly |
| SMA Marketing | GEO within its OrganicIQ program | $1,000 to $3,000 a month | Monthly, bundled with SEO |
| The HOTH | AI Discover | $1,500, $2,500, $5,000 or $10,000 a month | Monthly |
| Stride | Done-for-you AI Visibility | $2,000 a month | Month to month |
| WebFX | AI Search Optimization | From $2,250 a month | Monthly |
| RaftLabs | AI Search Visibility project | From $8,000 | Fixed-scope project, 4 to 6 weeks |
| ToTheWeb | LLM Brand Visibility Audit | $10,000 | One-off audit |
Agency guides estimate higher for full programs. Stackmatix puts full monthly retainers at $8,000 to $20,000, and First Pier puts full-service retainers at $5,000 to $25,000 a month.
The pattern across these prices: lower tiers mostly buy monitoring and reporting, and higher tiers add content production and digital PR. Prices change often, so confirm on each vendor's page before you compare quotes.
ChatGPT doesn't separate agencies from software when buyers ask for ChatGPT brand visibility services. Omnia monitored the prompt "chatgpt brand visibility services" daily in the US from 30 September to 29 October 2026. ChatGPT's 26 answers named 44 different brands.
| Brand | Share of ChatGPT answers that named it | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Conductor | 34.6% | Software, with professional services |
| Ahrefs | 30.8% | Software |
| Semrush | 23.1% | Software |
| GEO Agency | 19.2% | Agency |
| Aiso | 11.5% | Software |
| Brandify | 11.5% | Not verified |
The sources follow the same pattern. Across all the AI engines Omnia monitored for this prompt over the same dates, answers cited 539 distinct URLs. Of the 15 most cited, 7 were software product pages or tool roundups and 2 were agency service pages.
That is one prompt in one market over one month, so read it as how AI engines frame the category, not as a ranking of providers. The takeaway for a buyer: AI engines treat this as a choice between a tool and a team, so compare both before you sign.
Hire a service if you need people to do the work and have the budget. Use software if someone on your team can act on clear data a few hours a week.
| Question | GEO service | AEO software |
|---|---|---|
| Who does the work? | The provider | Your team, with suggestions and drafts from the tool |
| Typical cost | $390 to $10,000 a month (published retainers above) | From €79 a month for a small team (Omnia's Growth plan) |
| What you see | A weekly or monthly report | Every answer and the cited URLs, updated daily |
| Speed of feedback | At each reporting cycle | Daily |
| Best for | Teams with budget and no time | Teams with a marketer who can act on data |
Many small teams combine the two: software for daily data and next steps, and a specialist for digital PR. For a side-by-side of the software, see our guide to the best AEO tools.
Judge a provider on how it measures, what it delivers and what it promises. Ask these six questions on every sales call:
Red flags: a guaranteed position in ChatGPT, reports that show only a score, and no baseline before work starts. Our list of AEO agencies covers providers worth a call.
Omnia is AEO software for small marketing teams that want to do most of this work in-house. It monitors your prompts daily in real browsers on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, with Claude, Gemini and Copilot available on request. It shows every complete answer and the exact URLs each engine cites.
The Omnia Agent works from that data. It suggests projects, such as a page to rewrite or a cited source to earn a place in, and drafts the work. Omnia does most of the work; you make the calls and approve what ships. Agencies use Omnia too, to run AI visibility for their clients.

GEO services, also sold as AEO services, cost between $390 and $10,000 a month in published retainers, based on five vendors' pricing pages checked on 30 October 2026. One-off audits and projects started at $8,000 to $10,000. Agency guides estimate $5,000 to $25,000 a month for full-service programs, and many providers quote only after a call.
No. ChatGPT writes each answer fresh from the sources it retrieves, so no agency controls what it says. A credible provider promises specific work and transparent tracking on fixed prompts, not a guaranteed mention or position.
GEO services, which Omnia calls AEO, aim to get your brand mentioned and cited inside AI answers, while SEO services aim to rank your pages in search results. The work overlaps, because AI engines often cite pages that rank well. GEO adds prompt tracking, citation analysis and work on the third-party sources AI engines cite.
There is no fixed timeline. Changes show up only after AI engines retrieve the updated or new sources, so measure the same prompts weekly and judge progress over several weeks. Ask any provider for a baseline before work starts, so you can see what moved.
Yes, if someone on your team can spend a few hours a week on it. AEO software shows which prompts you're missing and which sources AI engines cite, and some tools draft the fixes for you to approve. An agency helps most with digital PR and with teams that have no time at all.
Yes. Small brands are often missing from the sources AI engines cite, so a few well-chosen pages and mentions can change what AI says about them. For a small budget, start with software and a free check, and hire for the work you can't staff.
