TL;DR
You ran a free AI visibility check and got a number back. Maybe it says 0%. Maybe 33%. Either way, your founder is going to ask the obvious question: is that good?
So what is a good AI visibility score? It matters because buyers now ask ChatGPT and Google AI Mode for a shortlist before they ever visit a website. If AI leaves you off that shortlist, you never get the chance to compete.
This guide shows you how to judge your score against real benchmarks, how to read each part of your AI visibility report, and which action to take first.
A good AI visibility score depends on the prompt: judge it against the brands leading that same prompt and against your own trend, never against a universal threshold. A 20% score is weak on a prompt where the leader sits at 90%, and strong on a prompt where nobody passes 25%.
Here is what "good" looked like on one crowded prompt. Omnia monitored the prompt "best website builder for startups" for Framer, daily in the US from 29 September to 28 October 2026. It ran on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude and Copilot. The 154 answers named 34 different brands.
| Visibility rank | Brand | Visibility (share of answers that mention the brand) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Webflow | 98.1% |
| 2 | Wix | 96.8% |
| 3 | Shopify | 94.8% |
| 4 | Framer | 88.3% |
| 5 | Squarespace | 60.4% |
| 10 | IONOS | 7.1% |
On that prompt, the top 4 brands appeared in almost every answer, and the 10th appeared in about 1 in 14. Framer was named in 88.3% of answers and still ranked 4th: a high score is only good next to the brands it competes with. That is one prompt in one category, one market and one month, so treat it as a picture of a mature, crowded category, not an industry average.
Omnia's rule of thumb sorts any prompt into three tiers:
Getting from absent to "in the conversation" on your most important prompts is an acceptable first goal for most small teams.
In Omnia, an AI visibility score is the percentage of AI answers that mention your brand, for a given set of prompts, AI engines and dates. The formula is plain: answers that mention you, divided by all answers, times 100.
Say a check runs 3 prompts on 2 AI engines. That gives 6 answers. If 1 of the 6 answers names your brand, your AI visibility score is 1 divided by 6, or about 17%.
Other tools calculate it differently. Some blend presence, position in the answer and citations into a weighted 0 to 100 score. That makes scores from different tools impossible to compare directly. Compare a score only with itself over time, or with competitors measured by the same tool on the same prompts.
For the full definition and the signals behind it, see our AI visibility score definition.
Read an AI visibility report in this order: visibility by prompt, share of voice, citations, the answers themselves, then the suggested actions. Each part answers a different question, and together they tell you where to start.

Look at your AI visibility score for each prompt and each AI engine before you look at the average. An average of 17% can hide a prompt where you lead and two where you are absent.
Mark the prompts where you score 0%. Those are your gaps. Then check whether the gap is the same on both AI engines or only on one. A gap on one engine usually points to the sources that engine prefers.
Share of voice is your portion of all brand mentions in the answers, compared with every competitor the AI engines named. If the answers mention 10 brands in total and you appear once, your share of voice is 10%.
Look at who holds the largest share. Those are the brands AI recommends in your place. Write down the top three, because their cited pages are what you study in the next step. Our guide to share of voice explains the metric in more depth.
Citations are the pages AI engines read before they answered. Your report lists them for each prompt, and shows whether your own domain is among them.
Open each cited page and sort it into one of three groups: your own pages, competitor pages, and third-party pages such as review sites, roundups and comparison articles. The third-party pages matter most. If a roundup is cited and names three competitors but not you, that page is a concrete target.
Read each AI answer in full, not just the score. The answer shows how AI describes your brand when it does mention you, which features it attaches to competitors, and the reasons it gives for recommending them.
If AI names you but describes you wrongly, for example with an old product or the wrong audience, fix the pages it cites before you chase more mentions.
Start with the actions in your report, because they come from the gaps the report found. In Omnia's free report you get two, such as a page to create for a prompt where only competitors are named. Do one before you run another check, so the next result can show whether it worked.
A 0% AI visibility score means none of the AI answers to those prompts named your brand. It is a common first result for a small brand, and it is fixable.
No page or pitch guarantees a mention. The goal of the first month is to move from absent to named on one prompt that matters.
You improve your AI visibility score by earning a place in the sources AI engines already cite, and by publishing pages that answer your buyers' prompts directly.
Start with the third-party pages from Step 3. Ask to be included where a roundup or comparison is a fair fit, and keep your review profiles current. Then work on your own pages. Each priority prompt should have one page whose opening sentence answers it, with the facts AI needs to describe you correctly.
Then measure again on the same prompts. For how to set up ongoing measurement, see our guide to how to monitor AI search visibility.
A free AI visibility check is a snapshot of a few prompts on a few AI engines on one day. AI answers change between runs, between days and between countries, so one check cannot show a trend.
Sample size matters too. A check with 3 prompts on 2 AI engines produces 6 answers. One extra mention moves the score by about 17 points, which is noise, not progress.
Move to daily tracking when you need any of these: a trend over weeks, more AI engines, more markets, or proof for your founder that the work moved the number. If you want to test a few prompts by hand first, our guide on how to check your visibility in AI engines in 5 minutes shows how.
Omnia's free AI visibility checker checks 3 prompts from your category in ChatGPT and Google AI Mode and emails you a report in 3 to 5 minutes. The report shows your visibility by prompt and engine, your share of voice against competitors, the sources AI engines cite, the full answers and two actions to start with.
The free check covers two AI engines and one moment in time. When you need a trend, Omnia's paid plans monitor your prompts daily on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Claude, Gemini and Copilot are available on request, and every plan starts with a 14-day free trial.

An acceptable AI visibility score is any score above 0% on the prompts your buyers ask, with a trend that is rising. How high is high enough depends on the prompt: on the website builder prompt in this guide, 7.1% was enough for 10th place, while 88.3% only reached 4th. Judge it against the leaders on the same prompt, not against a fixed number.
Yes. A 0% AI visibility score is a common first result for small brands. AI answers draw on the sources engines cite, and small brands are often missing from those sources. Start with the cited sources and one page that answers your most important prompt.
Different tools give different AI visibility scores because they use different formulas, prompts and AI engines. Omnia counts the share of answers that mention you, while other tools blend position and citations into a weighted score. Compare scores only within one tool.
You see different AI answers because AI engines generate each answer fresh, and the result can change with the run, the day, the country and your account history. That is why one manual test is not a measurement. Tracking the same prompts repeatedly smooths out the noise.
Check your AI visibility score daily if you track it with a monitoring tool, and review the trend weekly. With free checks, run the same prompts every 2 to 4 weeks, after you have made a change, so you can see whether it worked.
No, not necessarily. AI engines choose their sources differently from Google's ranking, so a page that ranks well can still be missing from AI answers. Track both if your buyers use both.
